SALT LAKE CITY — Anonymous Thank Yous is a website that provides a way for people to share the good they see around them. It’s an attempt to remind people that people are good.

Headline news is heavy, and Anonymous Thank Yous is a way to inoculate against that. One of our readers sent in a story that I’m sure will resonate with you as it did with me. His name is Scott and this is what he wrote:

"A few weeks ago I was sitting in line at a drive-up waiting to order breakfast. I was running late and was irritated at the world for my tardiness. The woman directly in front of me received the brunt of my irritation. I hated her car. I hated her hair. She irritated me in every way, even though I knew nothing about her. She was certainly inferior to me as was evidenced by how slowly she went through the motions of ordering, paying and leaving.

"When I finally got to the window, I held out my money with a scowl on my face, only to be informed that the very same person I disliked so much had paid for my breakfast.

"I was laid low.

"I had to pull over because I couldn’t see through the tears. I chose one way (the wrong way) to view the world around me and she showed me the right way. I was completely humbled and made a conscious effort to let this stranger’s example influence how I approached the rest of my week. I’m intensely grateful for this gift. Not just the meal, but the reminder that I’m not the center of the universe. There are far greater things than self.

"Thank you angel at the drive-up."
