HOGWARTS — J.K. Rowling piqued Harry Potter fans’ interest with a cryptic post on Twitter Tuesday morning.
The tweet, which said, “Cry, foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won’t tolerate this nonsense,” followed an announcement from the author, who said she was working on a novel and tweaking a screenplay.
When Rowling hinted her tweet was an anagram, thousands of Harry Potter fans began rearranging letters, hoping to conclude a revelation for a new novel in the series.
Reddit users deciphered the post as “Harry returns! Won’t say any details now. A week off. No comment,” but Rowling, after offering hints throughout the day, confirmed the answer to be Twitter user Emily Strong’s guess: “Newt Scamander only meant to stay in New York for a few hours.”
Newt Scamander is the lead character in Rowling’s novel “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which is being adapted into film by Harry Potter director David Yates, set to hit theaters November 2016.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is featured in the Harry Potter series as a textbook. The book chronicles the life of Scamander, who worked with magical creatures for the Ministry of Magic approximately 70 years before the Harry Potter series takes place.
