SALT LAKE CITY — Four officers received minor injuries while trying to restrain a man who entered the homes of people he didn't know Monday.
Matthew Hartung, 19, entered two homes of people he didn't know near 1100 E. Sherman Ave. at about 9:30 p.m., according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. He was forced out of the first home by the home owner before entering the home of an elderly woman, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
The woman called for help after Hartung sat on her couch and refused to leave, police said. The woman's landscaper came into the home and forced Hartung out, but was punched in the face once they were outside, the report reads.
Hartung was combative and resisted arrest when officers arrived, according to Detective Greg Wilking. Four officers received cuts, scrapes and bruises while trying to get him under control, he said.

“Nobody had to be taken to the hospital, but it was a pretty physical situation,” Wilking said. “The subject was kicking at officers and actively resisting.”
Wilking said Hartung appeared to have been suffering from some sort of impairment from drugs, alcohol or a combination of the two. Investigators said they are not sure why he was in the area.
Hartung was arrested on suspicion of burglary, trespass of a dwelling, assault, assault on an officer, resisting and public intoxication, according to police.
