MAGNA — Police have released the name of a man fatally shot in Magna Sunday night as officers continue to search for the men responsible.
A car with at least two people drove up to a residence, 3807 S. Amoridge Lane (8180 West) and opened fire just before 9 p.m., according to Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
Carlos Martinez, 40, died in the shooting.
“Injuries were fatal gunshot wounds, but not sure the total number of rounds both that hit the victim and the surrounding area,” Hoyal said.
Martinez was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Witnesses told investigators they saw at least two men flee the scene in a silver 4-door car of unknown make and model with tinted windows. The only description investigators had from witnesses of the gunman was a short, thin Hispanic man in his 30s, and the driver was a heavier set Hispanic man, Hoyal said.
Investigators are still looking for a motive in the shooting, and said they're not sure if this was gang-related.
Martinez was convicted of an amended charge of attempted aggravated assault using force or a deadly weapon in 2010, according to Utah state court records, in a case involving domestic violence. He was placed on probation, which he successfully completed.
