LAYTON — Two men who allegedly assaulted a man and stole his wallet were arrested during a routine traffic stop Saturday, police said.
Layton police said officers were on the way to the location of a robbery when an officer noticed a car that failed to stop before turning onto a street from a parking lot. The officer found the stolen wallet in the car after receiving permission to conduct a search of the car from the vehicle's two occupants, police said.
Tyler Joseph Anderson, 28, and Romido Rodrigo Bustos, 27, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the Davis County Jail, the Standard-Examiner reported.
Police said they received a report of the robbery at 1:13 a.m. The wallet was stolen from a 47-year-old man when he was walking from Summit Lounge, located at 918 W. Heritage Park Blvd., to a nearby hotel, according to investigators.
The man was giving a statement to police about the robbery when the officer pulled Anderson and Bustos over in their car, police said. Lt. Jason Hinojosa told the Standard Examiner the men were pulled over for a very simple traffic violation.
"Even if there isn't a stop sign, it's an automatic stop before you enter the street," he said.
