SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were arrested Wednesday after police serving a search warrant said they found a drug-store variety of illegal drugs in a home.
Trung Ngo, 29, and John Tran, 27, were arrested for investigation of drug distribution and possession of drug paraphernalia. Tran was also arrested for investigation of a restricted person in possession of a firearm.
About 6 p.m., Salt Lake police served a search warrant at 552 S. 1000 West in the Poplar Grove neighborhood. Inside, they found methamphetamine, heroin, spice, marijuana, two firearms and cash.
Salt Lake police detective Veronica Montoya did not know Thursday exactly how much of each drug was seized, but said the drugs were measured in grams and not brick-sized. It was unknown Thursday who was allegedly supplying the men, how long they had been operating or if they were selling drugs out of their house.
Ngo and Tran reportedly lived in the house with one of the men's mothers. She was not arrested.
Ngo was convicted of felony drug possession in 2012, according to Utah state court records, and put on probation. He was convicted in 2011 of an amended charge of attempted drug possession and unlawful possession of a firearm and was sentenced to one year in jail. In 2009 he was convicted of attempted unlawful acquisition of a credit card. Ngo also had a drug-related conviction in 2007 and was convicted of attempted theft by receiving stolen property in 2005.
Tran was charged in December in 3rd District Court with theft by receiving stolen property and two counts of failing to stop at the command of a police officer. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Dec. 16.
In that case, Tran and a female acquaintance were arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle that turned into a foot chase after police deployed tire spikes and the vehicle crashed, according to court documents.
Those charges came just three months after Tran was convicted of two counts of felony drug distribution in Duchesne, according to court records. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
