WEST VALLEY CITY — A man accused of assaulting a woman in a Burger King restaurant bathroom was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
West Valley Police said they have identified Justin Lloyd Martinez, 25, as the alleged assailant. He was tracked by police after they identified a jacket the victim was able to grab during the attack.
Martinez was arrested as he was exiting the State of Utah Driver License Division located in West Valley City around 1 p.m. Police said they aggressively followed leads since the attack occurred Sunday morning.
The victim told police she entered a bathroom at a Burger King restaurant located near 3500 S. 5600 West around 3 a.m. on Sunday. She said she unaware the man had followed her into the building. Police said she was physically and sexually assaulted and was able to fight off the assailant "at great risk to herself".
Martinez fled when a store employee and one of the woman's friends entered the bathroom looking for her and interrupted the attack, according to police.
A search of court records revealed a warrant was issued for the arrest of Martinez on Oct. 15 when he was charged with forgery, a third-degree felony, and theft by deception, a class A misdemeanor.
