Becky Bruce reporting One of the more ironic twists about the Nevada's earthquake comes straight from downtown Salt Lake City. City and county leaders and federal officials are actually meeting today to talk about emergency preparedness.

The parking lot of the Red Lion Hotel looks like the scene of a disaster with HAZMAT trucks and SWAT team command centers all lined up. But they're actually there for a conference called "A Gathering of Seagulls," in honor of the bird that saved the pioneers from their first Utah disaster.

Matthew Hurtes, with Salt Lake County's Emergency Management, says when word came in about today's earthquake, a lot of these organizations hit the road to help out. "Right now they're looking at what the needs and requests are, they're working with assessment teams to determine what those needs are, then they'll cater their responses to that," he said.

Obviously, they didn't plan their conference to coincide with an earthquake, but Hurtes admits it sure helps spread the message.
