SALT LAKE CITY — Real-life father and son Will and Jaden Smith play father and son on film in "After Earth," which opens this weekend.

The new sci-fi flick got me thinking about real father-and-son pairings in movies. There have been several films with actual fathers and their sons, but not all of them are very good movies.

So, here's a look at five films starring an actual father and son that are worth seeing.

The Pursuit of Happyness

"After Earth" is actually the second time Will Smith has teamed up with his son Jaden.

In 2006 Will and Jaden starred in the drama "The Pursuit of Happyness."

Domhnall Gleeson in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1"

The film will rip your heart out of your chest and inspire you all at the same time. The young Jaden was impressive and Will was solid as always. The film sits at 100 percent on OK.com and pulled in more than $160 million at the box office.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Here's one you probably didn't know about.

Veteran actor Brendan Gleeson played Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody in a few of the Harry Potter films and his actual son, Domhnall Gleeson, plated Bill Weasley in the last two.

While the two don't really share any significant screen time, it's still fun to know that a father and son had the opportunity to be a part of one of the biggest movie franchises of all time together.

The Great Buck Howard

Not many people have seen the film "The Great Buck Howard," which is too bad because it's a lot of fun.

The film stars Colin Hanks as a law school dropout who takes a job as the personal assistant for the narcissistic mentalist Buck Howard.

Throughout the movie Hanks' character references his disapproving father, who eventually appears on screen — and it's none other than Tom Hanks, Colin's real father.

While the duo aren't on screen much together, it's fun to watch them and the film overall is well worth seeing.

The Way

The 2010 drama "The Way" is a small indie film that has heart, faith and a beautiful message.

The film stars Martin Sheen as a father who tries to walk the Camino de Santiago from France to Spain in remembrance of his son, Emilio Estevez.

The real-life father and son don't share too much screen time, but Estevez actually directed the film and Sheen does an amazing job in the lead role.

"The Way" is currently streaming on Netflix and is a film worth checking out.

Zoolander

The 2001 comedy "Zoolander" stars Ben Stiller as the dimwitted male model Derek Zoolander. The goofy comedy also stars Owen Wilson; Ben Stiller's wife, Christine Taylor; and his father, Jerry Stiller.

Jerry Stiller may be better known as Frank Costanza in "Seinfeld" or Arthur Spooner from "The King of Queens," but his role as the sketchy agent, Maury Ballstein, is hilarious.

While Jerry and Ben don't play father and son in the movie, Maury is very much a father figure to Derek.

There you have it, five father-son movie team-ups worth watching. What other pairings can you think of? Let us know on the comment boards, Facebook or send an email.
