ALPINE — Students at Snow Springs Elementary School read nearly 2 million minutes over the last month, and Thursday they received a special reward.
Parents and students were asked to participate in the Jazz Read-a-Thon and were encouraged to host or attend reading parties to hit the 2 million minutes.
The school reached it's goal and as as a reward, Jazz forward Jeremy Evans visited came and read to an assembly of students Thursday. Afterward, Evans showed of his basketball skills by dribbling and dunking in front of the crowd.
"I always have fun coming to events," Evans said. "Hopefully the kids keep reading."
Students had some fun with their teachers at the assembly as well. The students who read the most minutes gave their teachers a pie in the face.
