MORONI — Two teens who left a youth home were quickly recaptured Saturday night, but not before leading police on a chase with speeds reaching 100 mph.
About 6 p.m., law enforcers were told to be on the lookout for two boys, ages 15 and 17, who had stolen a vehicle from a youth home in Moroni and left the facility. Two Juab County sheriff's deputies and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper spotted the teens coming out of Nephi Canyon about 15 minutes later, according to the UHP. The 15-year-old was driving the stolen van.
The chase went north on I-15, reaching speeds of 100 mph, according to the UHP. The teens took the Main Street Santaquin exit to avoid tire spikes that had been set up up on the road by deputies. They went across the intersection and crashed into an embankment. The two teens, who were not injured, then tried to run but were quickly captured and taken to a youth correctional facility.
