(KSL) Daggett County residents could see their taxes go up, and they have two escaped convicts to blame.
The Daggett County Council has proposed an increase in property taxes of almost 14 percent. The increase would cover a budget shortfall caused when the state removed inmates from the county jail following the escape of Juan Diaz-Arevalo and Danny Gallegos in September.
The county had received money for every state inmate housed in the facility.
Twenty prisoners have now been returned to the jail, but that is down from the roughly 65 previously housed there.
