PARADISE, Cache County — With the sudden drop in temperatures Tuesday, most of Utah saw rain. But snow also made a strong showing in many parts of the state.

Some areas in Cache County got 8 to 10 inches of that heavy, slushy white stuff. In the small town of Paradise, many residents were caught off guard.

The Burrows family woke up around 6 a.m. to the sound of cracking tree branches.

"A lot of the trees were still fully leafed out," Todd Burrows said, "and so the snow was pretty heavy."

A wet cold front brought rain, snow and colder temperatures to the Wasatch Front Tuesday morning, making for a messy commute and contributing to an auto-pedestrian accident near East High School.

"It was so sad to see," 11-year-old Griffin Burrows said. "I looked out the window and it was, like, disaster everywhere."

Luckily, it's far from a major disaster. Todd Burrows said he'll only have to take care of a few minor repairs. "We'd hoped we'd be prepared for it, but we're not prepared for 8 inches of heavy, heavy snow this early in the year," he said.

"We haven't been done with the leaves yet. We wanted to still play with the leaves, but it's snowing so we can't," said 9-year-old Olivia Burrows.

At Hillcrest Elementary School in Logan, students took a more lighthearted approach to the snow. After all, they only got a few inches.

"It was like, finally! My wishes have come true!" said Jason Duersch.

Still, even a skiff of snow isn't as fun for the adults who have to deal with it, ready or not.

"My first thought was, it's way too early!" said Julie Duersch. "My second thought was, I hope the boots still fit from last year; and they did, so the kids were really excited."

Some of the Paradise residents who were hit the hardest spent Tuesday afternoon getting their property ready in case of more snow the next couple of days.

Cache County residents said the last time they were hit by a good heavy snow like this was in May 2011.
