SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A court hearing is scheduled for the accused kidnapper of Elizabeth Smart.

A judge will consider whether Brian David Mitchell can be forced to take medication to restore his competency and be tried for the 2002 kidnapping of the Salt Lake City teenager.

A hearing before 3rd District Judge Judith Atherton is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Mitchell's competency hearings have ended early because of his continued outbursts.

Mitchell and his estranged wife are charged with kidnapping Smart from her home in June 2002. She was 14 at the time.

Atherton can order Mitchell to take medication if she finds he meets certain requirements.
