PROVO -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will build a new state-of-the-art building at the Missionary Training Center in Provo.
In a news release, the church said Wednesday the new building at the center of the campus will replace the Melvin J. Ballard building, which will be demolished as part of the construction process.
- Demolition begins -- early in 2012
- Construction completed -- fall of 2013
The Ballard building houses the MTC bookstore, mail room, Training Resource Center and four meeting rooms. During construction the bookstore and mail room will move into the soon-to-be-completed east wing of the Jacob Hamblin building.
The new building will have more floors above grade than the current Ballard building, which has two. The new building also will house classrooms equipped with modern technological resources for missionaries to use.
Every year, 20,000 new missionaries pass through the doors of the MTC in Provo, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
