Alex Cabrero Reporting We begin tonight with a big wreck, one that made a mess of traffic on I-15, even shut the freeway down for a while. It happened near Roy.
A pickup truck from Idaho was hauling some appliances, but the driver didn't secure them. His refrigerator fell out of the bed of the truck and started bouncing around I-15. Motorists managed to swerve and avoid hitting the fridge, but they ended up hitting each other.
An 18-year old girl was in the back of one car and was trapped inside after she was hit from behind. She had to be cut out of the car, then taken by helicopter to the hospital for severe head injuries. She is expected to be okay though.
All together, four cars were involved in this series of accidents.
Lisa Hunt, Motorist: "It scared me. I've never really been in an accident before. It was different."
Hal Jones, Motorist: "Everyone was kind of going the speed limit I think, but all of a sudden you saw a couple of people braking and you know you kind of back off a little bit. Boy to find a refrigerator in the middle of the Utah freeway is something I've never seen before."
I-15 at the Roy exit had to be shut down on the southbound side as the chopper landed, but everything has been cleaned up and traffic is back to normal now.
