SALT LAKE CITY — Residents of a Poplar Grove mobile home park were awakened early Sunday morning by the sound of gunshots, sirens and squealing tires.
Police shot and injured a man after he crashed into an officer's vehicle while attempting to flee police in the Sherwood Forest mobile home park near 1600 West and 400 South.
About 3:30 a.m., Salt Lake City police responded to a reported hit-and-run incident near 500 West and 400 South. The stolen vehicle involved in the crash was later found abandoned near the entrance to the mobile home park, according to a news release.

Inside the complex, police found the man believed to be involved in the hit and run in another stolen vehicle. While trying to flee the scene, the man crashed into a police car, according to police.
An officer fired at the man, striking him and the vehicle, but the man managed to drive away.
Police followed the stolen vehicle to about 2600 South on Redwood Road, where the man stopped. He was arrested about 3:45 p.m. and immediately taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Sherwood Forest resident Blanca Madrigal said the second of the stolen vehicles belongs to her father.
"It's really frightening," Madrigal said. "It sounded really close, but I never expected to be our car."
Russ Baker-Gorringe said three gunshots were fired during the incident.
"We came out and looked around," Baker-Gorringe said. "The police were already here. … We wondered what was going on, if someone was in trouble."
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with department policy. The Salt Lake City Police Department and the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.
