SALT LAKE CITY -- In the 50th anniversary year of the Utah Shakespeare Festival, founder Fred Adams announced a festival musical will premiere in London next month.
"Lend Me A Tenor - the Musical" was the hit of the festival's 2007 season. It was a Tony award-winning play 20 years ago on Broadway, and the playwright gave festival veterans the OK to rewrite and create music.
They took it to producers in Great Britain. It will open there June 15.
Adams said, "This is a milestone that I never dreamed. It opens on London's West End and there's huge, huge ballyhoo about it in London right now. The pre-sales are doing extremely well."
Because of the London premiere, festival managers have had to recast two roles and find another director for one of this summer's productions. Adams says he's happy to let them go -- it's good news for Utah.
