Marc Giauque, KSL NewsradioAfter tonight, cab and shuttle drivers to the airport could be required to undergo FBI background checks

Right now, cab drivers undergo background checks, but they're done by local police.

A new city ordinance would require a federal check for them and all shuttle and van drivers who city officials say basically drive to the front door of the airport.

Others aren't so sure, saying it already takes about 30 days to get an airport license.

The Salt Lake City Council could vote on the ordinance tonight.
