SALT LAKE COUNTY -- A Utahn has died from influenza, the first flu-related death of the 2010-2011 flu season in Salt Lake County.

Health officials would say only that the individual was 61 years old. The death reportedly occurred in Salt Lake County, but no details were available.

Health officials don't provide information that would identify an individual because of health-privacy regulations.

Fast flu facts from the Utah Department of Health:

  • Flu activity is relatively flat right now in Utah, after a relatively small spike early in the fall
  • Hospitalizations had a slight bump at the New Year
  • Of the hospitalized patients, 94.5 percent were identified as having some kind of risk factor for flu
  • Most of Utah's cases are associated with a strain known as H3, not the H1N1 (swine flu) virus that created so much trouble last year
