SALT LAKE CITY -- Police are investigating an attempted break-in at the Peter Corroon campaign headquarters at 770 E. South Temple.
Police say a campaign employee came to work Tuesday morning and discovered the broken window.
Sgt. Mike Hill of the Salt Lake City Police Department says evidence at the scene indicates three or four people were involved. He said detectives have found fingerprints and shoeprints at the scene.
"We've got some pretty good footprints on the top of the second floor roof," Hill said. "Apparently it was wet last night and left some pretty good shoeprints."
He said some of the suspects may have cut themselves while trying to get inside the building.
"As they're reaching into the glass and pulling the glass out of the pane, they left some some blood stains there," Hill said.
They believe the suspects used a utility pole in the back of the building to climb to up the side of the building.
At this time, Hill does not believe they actually made it inside because the computer and other items were not taken.
He did say the suspects caused about $800 worth of damage to the window and also damaged four vents and moved an air conditioning unit on the roof, causing an additional $600 to $800 in damage.
"We don't know who did this and we do hope they are caught and pay for what they've done," said Stella Thurkill, communications director for Corroon's campaign.
"The two or three hours that we would've spent doing what we're supposed to be doing when you're working on a campaign and you're 28 days away, we have to spend talking to media and to police officers," Thurkill added.
