SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah House Republicans have voted for Rep. Douglas Aagard as their new majority leader.
Aagard fills the vacancy created when former Majority Leader Kevin Garn resigned.
Garn resigned March 13 after acknowledging he paid a woman $150,000 to keep quiet about a nude hot-tubbing incident that took place a quarter century ago when she was a minor and he was 29 or 30.
Aagard was elected to the leadership position on Wednesday. But Aagard isn't seeking re-election this year and so he'll hold the job only until January.
Aagard is a mortgage banker from Kaysville who was first elected in 2000. He is chairman of the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee.
