TAYLORSVILLE -- A fight over girlfriends ended with a man being shot in the stomach early Saturday morning.

Taylorsville police say two men were partying at a home near 1700 West and Chateau Avenue around 4 a.m. The men started saying bad things about each others' girlfriends. Police say one man got so mad he pulled a gun and shot the other in the stomach.

The victim's friends took him to Intermountain Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Officers say the man who pulled the trigger, Hugo Martinez, took off on foot. They caught up with him a short time later and took him into custody.

However, they say his gun is still missing.

Officers urge anyone who may come across the weapon to leave it alone and give police a call.

Martinez was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and other charges.
