Weber State sweeps Montana schools with 73-63 victory

OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Daviin Davis scored 17 points and grabbed four steals as Weber State defeated Montana State 73-63 on Saturday night to complete the season sweep.

Arturas Valeika scored 11 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season for the Wildcats (14-12, 9-5 Big Sky Conference), who move into a tie for second place in the Big Sky Conference with Northern Arizona. WSU also clinched a spot in the league's six-team postseason tournament.

Carlos Taylor led the Bobcats (15-12, 7-7 Big Sky Conference) with 22 points while Mecklen Davis had 11 and Divaldo Mbunga finished with 10.

Brody Van Brocklin, who finished with 12 points, hit a 3-pointer with 5:39 to give WSU a 59-58 lead, the Wildcats' first lead since going up 2-0 early in the game. Casey Durham's 3-pointer gave the Bobcats a 63-62 lead a few minutes later, and then Van Brocklin scored four straight as WSU scored the game's final 11 points.

Mbunga capped off a 10-2 run in the first half that gave the Bobcats a 20-12 lead with 8:22 remaining in the first half.

The Wildcats fought back and eventually pulled to within 24-23 on a jumper from Davis less than four minutes later. However, Taylor helped the Bobcats pull away again with a pair of 3-pointers, followed by one from Mecklen Davis.

Taylor hit a pair of free throws to give MSU a 35-25 lead at the half.
