CFL implements extra point changes

TORONTO (AP) — Kicking the extra point is about to become a little more challenging in the CFL.

Conversions will be pushed back 20 yards after the league approved a series of significant rule changes Wednesday. Extra points will now be kicked from the 32-yard line instead of the 12.

Going for the 2-point conversion could become less challenging, though — and more attractive. That try will come from the 3 instead of the 5.

The change to the kicking PAT comes after a 99.4 percent success rate last season.

The NFL is also considering changes to its extra points, including moving kicks to the 15-yard line, and placing the ball at the 1 1-2 for the 2-pointer. NFL owners will meet in May to further discuss — and perhaps adopt — those changes for 2015.

The CFL's board of governors rejected testing a 3-point conversion during the exhibition season that would be a play from the 10-yard line.

Other approved modifications include:

— A coach no longer can request a measurement, leaving it to the referee to decide if one is warranted.

—Coaches will continue to be allowed to challenge defensive pass interference calls, but offensive pass interference won't be subject to video review.
