PARIS (AP) — French race walker Bertrand Moulinet has confessed to using a form of the banned performance enhancer EPO after testing positive.
Moulinet said in a statement that he failed a test for a product called FG4592 and that the French police agency responsible for doping investigations, OCLAESP, searched his home on Wednesday morning.
Having acknowledged taking the banned substance, Moulinet is not asking for a "B'' sample — which is used to verify the initial positive "A'' sample test — and is prepared to accept his punishment.
Moulinet says "I am very troubled for the people who invested hope in me and supported me" and that "the effects are not worth the risk."
He finished eighth in the 20-kilometer walk at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
