Woman hit and killed on SR 201 identified

A woman died this morning when a car hit her while she was trying to cross state Road 201 in Magna.

Woman hit and killed on SR 201 identified

The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) has identified her as 45-year-old Julia Allen from Magna.

UHP says she darted across the eastbound lanes around 8000 West just before 5 a.m.

The driver of an eastbound car didn't see Allen until it was too late, tried to stop but hit the woman. Officers say the driver was not speeding and will not be cited.

Investigators don't know why Allen was trying to cross the road in the dark.

They interviewed Allen's boyfriend. He said she had been out with friends the night before. They don't know why she was in the area of the accident at that time.

One lane of the road was shut down for some time while crews cleaned up, but it has since been reopened.
