Utah State gets $750K program grant

LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Utah State University has been awarded a $750,000 grant to develop a training program in pediatric audiology and speech-language pathology.

The grant from the U.S. Department of Education is going to USU's department of communicative disorders and deaf education. The department will use the money to teach graduate students about auditory-learning and spoken-language approaches for children with hearing loss.

Todd Houston, director of USU's graduate program in auditory learning and spoken language, says there is a nationwide shortage of workers in the fields.

The program funded by the grant will train more students to enter the professions.
