The Snowboard Cross is a new event to the Winter Games in Torino, but for 29-year old Seth Wescott of Farmington, Maine, winning the gold was his only focus. It's head to head competition in this event, as groups of four riders race down a thousand yard jump filled course, with only two in each heat advancing to the next round.

Seth Wescott has been competing in snowboard events for ten years, but when this event was approved for these winter games three years ago, his entire focus was to win the gold. In today's competition, Wescott beat a rider from Slovakia by less than the length of his board to win the historic first gold medal in his sport.
