VERNAL, Utah (AP) -- Permits allowing people to cut their own Christmas trees from Utah national forests go on sale soon.
The permits for the Flaming Gorge, Roosevelt, Duchesne and Vernal ranger districts of the Ashley National Forest go on sale on Nov. 21. The $10 permits allow cutting of trees up to 15 feet tall. Trees should be cut close to the ground and leave a stump no higher than 6 inches.
Only one permit is allowed per household. One permit is good for one tree.
Cutting is not allowed within 200 feet of lakes and streams, campgrounds, picnic areas and some other sites.
