Tom Callan reporting Some scammers are sending out urgent text messages in order to steal your personal ID.
"One of your accounts is in default. Please update your credit card information," says a bogus text message claiming to be from the Salt Lake Credit Union. Joe Grigg received it. "First off, we don't have an account with Salt Lake Credit Union," Grigg said.
The message said call toll free, but Grigg played all with the ruse. "Yeah, 845 is not a toll-free number," he said.
The choppy computer-like, prerecorded voice told him to dial in his credit card number. He never pushed pound. "You know, it may have been set up by someone in, who knows, China?" Grigg said.
The Salt Lake Credit Union's Web site says the credit union will never contact you for personal information.
