CENTERVILLE — Police are working to identify a teenager that led officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

The chase started around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday near Parrish Lane and Marketplace Drive in Centerville. An officer recognized the stolen car the 17-year-old was driving, which had no license plate, according to Sgt. Zan Robison of the Centerville Police Department.

When the officer tried to stop the car, the teen ran a red light and took off, Robison said.

"Speeds reached about 80 miles per hour on the road. The tire on the front right side of the vehicle became disabled at some point during the pursuit and the vehicle lowered to about 40 miles per hour. Then later, (the vehicle) ultimately crashed by the Farmington trailhead," Robison said.

After the crash, the teen jumped out of the car and ran away. A police dog quickly tracked him down, Robison said.

The teen was expected to be booked into the Farmington Bay Youth Detention Center. The car had been reported stolen out of Salt Lake City.
