Suspected drug dealer leads police on wild chase

KSL team coverage A suspected drug dealer and tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs are off the streets tonight following a wild police chase through Weber County.

The suspect was driving his H2 Hummer, and police say they are amazed at the obstacles he was able to get over and go through with the vehicle.

Ogden resident Dawna Shupe said, "I got a call around 9:30 last night saying, ‘Come home, there's been a police chase through our backyard.' And I said, ‘Are you kidding me?'" But all the proof Shupe needed to see was in her yard: a smashed fence and a Hummer grill from the getaway car driven by a suspected drug dealer.

Lt. David Tarran, with the Ogden Police Department, said, "He was just blowing through fences and through trees and over trees."

Right now police are identifying the man behind the wheel as Marcus Ryan Bouie, but he's given investigators multiple names. Police say Marcus Ryan Bouie is just one of 10 names this man used to conceal his identity and throw police off his trail. "It's an attempt, but it's not successful. We can arrest you even if we don't know who you are," Lt. Darin Parke, with the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force, said.

Drug agents were investigating Bouie for selling marijuana and Ecstasy. They were serving a search warrant at his Ogden home near 5th Street and 400 West last night. When Bouie pulled into his driveway and saw the officers, he took off. He led them on a chase, ending near 12th and Washington Blvd.

Inside the car police found multiple guns and more than $100,000 worth of marijuana and ecstasy.

Lt. Parke says, "He was a major drug dealer in the area."

Weber and Ogden law enforcement officers are still investigating just how big a role Bouie played, but investigators in other jurisdictions say any get is good for all.

Lt. Chris Bertram, with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, said, "The people aren't just in Weber County. They're coming down from Davis County to Salt Lake County."

Lt. Bertram says agencies spend time and resources aiming to take down the highest members in the organizations. "When you get someone who's at the top of the organization, you're knocking out their whole infrastructure," he said.

But once a kingpin falls, others scramble to take his place, a promotion of sorts in the drug distribution ring, one law enforcement says will be temporary. "We're there. We're going to be there to go after them," Lt. Bertram said.

Bouie is facing charges of drug possession and evading law enforcement. He's also looking at some federal charges for the guns and the value of the drugs he allegedly had.
