Study: No big gap between east and west in Jordan district

The Jordan School District has been told there's not much of a difference between the east side and the west side.

Transitions teams have been arguing over how to split the assets of the district. They've also wondered if the split is causing a big disparity between both sides.

But an expert says his study shows there are no great ethnic or economic differences on the east and west sides. The median price of an east-side home is $140,000 to $240,000. It's $155,000 to $260,000 for a larger home on the west side. Taxable values will be equal by 2012.

The Deseret News reports Jason Burningham, with the municipal securities firm Lewis, Young, Robertson & Burningham, conducted the study and presented the findings yesterday at arbitration hearings.

East-side residents voted last year to leave Jordan District. The split will take effect next July.
