State legislator loses re-election bid

OREM, Utah (AP) -- A Utah County Republican will not be serving a third term in the Legislature.

At the Utah County Republican convention, Rep. Aaron Tilton of Springville was defeated by Francis Gibson of Mapleton. The Salt Lake Tribune reported Saturday that Gibson will now be the party's nominee in the November election.

Tilton had come under fire with allegations of conflict of interest involving his business, which wants to build the first nuclear power plant in Utah. He also is a member of the Public Utilities and Technology Committee in the Legislature.

Gibson knocked Tilton out of the running by getting more than 60 percent of the delegate vote.
