ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- St. George is booming.

The city is the second-fastest growing among all U.S. metropolitan areas, according to a new census report. It grew by 5.1 percent between July 2006 and July 2007, trailing behind only Palm Coast, Fla., which grew by 7.2 percent.

During the previous year, St. George led the nation with a 6-percent growth rate.

The Ogden-Clearfield and Provo-Orem areas also made the top 50 at 2.9 and 2.6 percent, respectively.

William Frey, demographer for the Brookings Institution, says a sluggish economy and housing market have slowed -- but not stopped -- the trend toward westward migration in the United States.
