Springville preparing for spring runoff

Randall Jeppesen reporting Springville City is getting its spring runoff flood plan in place just in case the snow starts melting off the mountains too quickly.

Clearing out creek beds with tractors is just one of the precautions Springville Police Lt. Dave Caron says the city is taking. "If the weather gets warm really fast, and if we get rain on top of that, we could have some potential problems," he said.

He says the snowpack above Springville is around 117 percent. That's a good thing, unless it all comes down at once. So, they'll soon be prefilling sandbags.

"We hope we don't have to implement the plan. But we do, we have a plan ready to go," Caron said.

The city also is offering to inspect people's properties near the creek to check for potential problems.
