South Jordan firefighter dies while on duty

SALT LAKE CITY — A South Jordan Firefighter died in bed while on duty Monday afternoon. Tuesday afternoon, the City of South Jordan and the South Jordan Fire Department identified the firefighter as Corban Summers, "a respected and beloved member of the department for over 23 years." According to a press release from the City of South Jordan, Summers' crew found him unresponsive in his room at Fire Station 61 at approximately 2:07 p.m. They immediately initiated life-saving measures before Summers was sent to the Jordan Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. "Firefighter Summers was more than a dedicated public servant – he was a cherished colleague known for his warm smile, his unwavering commitment to duty, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him," a press release said. "His impact on this department and community is immeasurable, and his presence will be deeply missed. At this time, no other details, such as the cause of death, have been released. The City of South Jordan said it will release additional information, including memorial services, as it becomes available.
