Sandy considering changes to city dog code

(KSL News) Dog lovers in Sandy say a proposed change in city code meant to protect people from dangerous animals is misguided.

The city council is currently considering requiring all owners of pit bulls and Rottweilers, along with owners of other potentially problematic dogs, to keep their animals in roofed enclosures in the yards unless the animals are muzzled.

The director of Sandy animal control says the move will protect the public by making owners who choose those breeds be more responsible.

However, critics say the problem is not with those breeds but with the owners. They say they only want dogs that have caused problems in the past to be on the restricted list.
