SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday was prematurely released Thursday, but was later arrested and booked.

Loelu Toafe had been arrested and booked on warrants in connection with criminal mischief and domestic violence assault, according to Salt Lake City police. Toafe made bond on the warrants and was released around 3 a.m. Thursday.

Officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives contacted jail staff and informed them that Toafe should have had a federal detainer placed on him in connection with having possession of a firearm by a felon. The jail staff had received the information prior to the release of Toafe, but had overlooked it.

Salt Lake County sheriff’s officers and Unified police responded to the release and searched for Toafe. He was located in West Jordan and arrested again without incident around 4 p.m. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
