Police searching for apartment burglar

(KSL News) Provo police are looking for a suspect they believe committed as many as 50 burglaries at student apartments in recent weeks.

Around 4 a.m. yesterday, a man walked into an apartment at an apartment complex near 700 North and 100 East in Provo. A female student was still awake and studying inside the apartment.

The man apologized for walking into the wrong apartment, but the woman was suspicious and called her boyfriend. Her boyfriend then encountered the man trying to open doors at a nearby apartment and confronted him. The suspect gave an excuse as to what he was doing and walked away.

Police believe the man has been targeting unlocked doors in the middle of the night. "A lot of laptops, iPods, Play Stations, just about anything electronic, they are also going through wallets and purses and taking cash," explained Capt. Cliff Argyle, with the Provo Police Department.

Police have made composite sketch of the suspect. They say he is about 25 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He was wearing a hat and carrying a red nylon bag.
