MIDVALE — A motorcyclist died in a collision with a van late Wednesday, Unified police said.

The collision happened shortly before 11 p.m. on 8000 S. State, Sgt. Aymee Race with Unified police said. The motorcyclist had been driving north on State Street at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle collided with the van, Race said.

The van was attempting a left turn to go west on 8000 South, police said.

Race said that the motorcycle was in flames. Bystanders jumped in to assist after the crash. Police and fire crews attempted life-saving measures, but the motorcyclist, Raul Alexis Silvasanchez-Stockseth, died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the van was cooperating with police, Race said.

The crash remains under investigation.
