TAYLORSVILLE — A 20-year-old man arrested this week for allegedly trying to commit fraud at a Taylorsville Walmart may be part of a larger criminal enterprise.
Nathan Axel Hernandez-Belmontes was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of communications fraud, forgery and engaging in a continuous criminal enterprise.
Taylorsville police say Hernandez-Belmontes "used fraudulent coupons" to buy items at a Walmart at a heavily reduced price, and then attempted to return the items at a different store to receive a refund for full price.
"The suspect in this case is possibly linked to other active criminal investigations in the state of Utah and other states" a police booking affidavit states.
Police believe Hernandez-Belmontes is part of an organized crime group out of California who are being investigated for similar crimes in West Valley City and in Utah County.
