Orem man being called a hero for saving children

Randall Jeppesen reporting Residents of an Orem apartment building that caught fire today are picking up the pieces, and one man is being called a hero.

Renee Faulring is pregnant and has two small children. When the fire broke out in a nearby apartment she was trapped by thick, black smoke, so she ran out onto her third-floor balcony. "[I] screamed, ‘I have babies!' And everybody looks up doesn't move, except for Eric," she said.

She's speaking of Eric Baker, who also lives in the building. He climbed up the wall to the balcony and lowered down the children one at a time. Of course, he says it was no big deal. "All the adrenaline going, it just needed to be done," he said.

Then the fire department arrived and helped get Renee down with a ladder. But she says Eric is a hero, because the smoke was so thick her children were struggling to breathe.
