Ogden police investigating Sunday morning shootings

Sandra Yi and Tom Callan reportingOgden police are investigating after multiple shots were fired in two separate neighborhoods. Investigators believe the shootings are gang-related, and it appears the same gun was used in both neighborhoods.

"It sounded like four bullets, really loud bangs, louder than firecrackers," explained Ogden resident Danny Stroud.

Stroud pointed out the bullet holes outside his house. "I heard four shots, but there were seven shots; five there, two here," he explained.

His family was home, around 2:30 Sunday morning, when someone drove by firing a gun. Stroud was on the couch with his 9-month-old son. "Anybody could have gotten hit. If it was just a little but over and down, I would have got hit," he said.

The house next door also has bullet holes.

Police believe gang members are behind the this shooting near 27th Street and Quincy Avenue and a similar shooting at a home on Monroe Boulevard 30 minutes earlier. They say the residents there were sitting on the porch when a car drove by.

"The passenger leaned out, shouted something, I don't know what they shouted, and fired numerous rounds at the house," explained Lt. Loring Draper, with the Ogden Police Department.

Bullets pierced the side of a Dodge Durango and shattered the back window. There are bullet holes in the house too. "If they're firing random shots, usually innocent victims are hit," Draper said.

No one was hurt in these cases, but it's enough to make Stroud look for a new place to live. "There are kids all over this neighborhood. It could have been just any earlier, or went through another window, it would have got a kid, my kid, my wife, me; and I'm an innocent bystander. I have nothing to do with what's going on," he said.

There were three gang-related murders in Ogden last summer. Police don't want that to happen again this year, so they want to find whoever fired those shots.

Witnesses saw a dark-colored Saturn speed away, and investigators say they have some leads. If you have any information on the shootings, contact the Ogden Police Department at (801) 629-8221.
