PROVO — Search and rescue teams recovered the body of a 21-year-old West Valley City man who submerged at the Olmstead Diversion Dam in the Provo River.
The man was identified as Albert John, "AJ", Mapa. The young man had recently finished a mission in Tonga, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. Mapa's body was found about 8:50 p.m. about 35 feet down river from where he was last seen, officials said.
Earlier in the evening, Cannon tweeted that several agencies responded to reports of a man who went underwater about 5:40 p.m. Saturday evening.
