HURRICANE, Utah (AP) -- A man drowned at a state park in southern Utah while trying to swim to an island.
Authorities don't know if the 37-year-old man from Leeds lost steam or cramped up while swimming with friends in Sand Hollow Reservoir at Sand Hollow State Park.
Two friends were on the island and another was trailing the victim. The distance between shore and the island is 160 yards.
Sand Hollow manager Laura Melling says swimmers sometimes don't realize how tough it is to cover that distance. The man's name was not released. The last drowning at Sand Hollow State Park was in 2005.
