Logan restaurant to donate proceeds to family injured in nine-car crash

LOGAN — A Logan restaurant is giving back to a local family recovering from a nine-car pileup accident that happened nearly a month ago. Angie’s owner Saboor Sahely learned about the family through conversations with customers. Joshua Babbs was one of the injured in the pileup on May 13, which Utah Highway Patrol troopers told KSL at the time had left multiple people injured. Sahely said he doesn't know the Babbs family personally, but felt compelled to help. “It’s an opportunity for us to give something back,” Sahely said. Sahely has been a part of Angie's for nearly 50 years. He began as a dishwasher in the same building before becoming a cook, and later a store manager. In 1983, Sahely purchased the restaurant and reopened it as Angie’s, naming it after his then-2-year-old daughter. “This community has supported us day in and day out, through thick or thin,” Sahely said. “They put shoes on our kids’ and grandkids’ feet.” Sahely participates in community fundraisers often and said Babbs' story felt like one he needed to contribute to. “Thank goodness he’s doing much better,” he said. “He’s home now, he’s improving a lot, so we’re all grateful for that.” In response, Angie’s will donate 20% of its proceeds from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, to the Babbs family to help cover medical expenses.Sahely said the fundraiser reflects the same community spirit that has supported his restaurant for nearly five decades. “You don’t know what happens in life 48 years from now,” Sahely said. “But thank God we’re in a position to help out.”
