LAYTON — A 15-year-old girl hit by two cars while walking to school this week suffered multiple broken bones and will need to undergo extensive physical therapy, according to her family.
Just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, Reggie Marsden was walking to Layton High School, 440 Wasatch Drive, and was crossing Wasatch near 200 North when she was hit by two vehicles, according to police, and was pinned under the second vehicle.
The girl was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in serious condition and later flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City for additional treatment.
According to a GoFundMe* campaign set up by Reggie's grandmother, whom Reggie lives with, Reggie suffered three breaks on one leg, a broken arm, a fractured hip, and rib and pelvis injuries.
"She has pins and rods. There will be a lot of physical therapy, pain and tears," the grandmother wrote on the fundraising site. "We want Reggie to know she is loved and will be well taken care during this challenging time."
Police said the area where Reggie was hit was dark and it was raining at the time of the crash. The incident happened near the entrance at the school where traffic gets congested in the morning. Determining whether the girl was in a crosswalk will be part of the ongoing investigation, police said. As of Tuesday, no drivers had been cited.
