Lawmakers to consider bill that could ban online hunting

Utah lawmakers will consider a bill during the legislative session that could ban the online practice.

It has generated a lot of criticism, the practice of using basically a mouse click and a remote control gun to take game.

Gene Baierschmidt, with the Humane Society of Utah, says hopefully Utah will change its law this year. He says, "Even though it's not occurring here in Utah or anywhere in the United States now, it would be perfectly legal now to set up an Internet hunting ranch in Utah by someone."

Baierschmidt says Utah is one of about 16 states that does not have a law banning that. He says even pro-hunting groups like the National Rifle Association and Safari Club International are opposed to it on the grounds that it does not involve what is commonly known as "fair chase."
